Acid-resistant and fireproof bricks (also known as acid-resistant bricks or acidic fireproof bricks) are refractory materials that simultaneously exhibit both high-temperature resistance and exceptional resistance to strong acidic corrosion. They are primarily used as linings for equipment in industries such as chemical engineering, metallurgy, and power generation that come into contact with acidic media (such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid), including pickling tanks, reaction towers, flue ducts, and flooring.
Main types
Based on their composition and properties, commonly used acid-resistant and fire-resistant bricks include the following types:
• Siliceous acid-resistant bricks (silica bricks): Primarily composed of silica (SiO₂) with a content of ≥93%, these bricks exhibit strong acid resistance (with an acid-resistance rate reaching up to 99.8%) and have a high softening temperature under load. They are suitable for high-temperature, acidic environments such as glass kilns, coke ovens, and acidic steelmaking furnaces.
• High-alumina acid-resistant bricks: Primarily made from high-alumina bauxite, these bricks have a high Al₂O₃ content, excellent refractoriness, and good thermal shock resistance. They exhibit superior resistance to various acids and are suitable for high-temperature acidic kilns and high-temperature reaction zones in the chemical industry.
• Acid-resistant clay bricks (based on fireclay bricks): Made primarily from refractory clay, these bricks exhibit excellent thermal shock resistance and good resistance to acidic slag. They are widely used due to their superior acid resistance and wear resistance, commonly found in general chemical equipment, acid-resistant flooring, and low-temperature furnace linings.
• Carbon-based acid-resistant bricks (corrosion-resistant carbon bricks): Primarily made of carbon materials, these bricks offer excellent resistance to acids, abrasion, and high temperatures. They also have good thermal conductivity and high strength, making them particularly suitable for applications involving severe wear, high temperatures, and intense corrosion—such as in incinerators and chemical furnaces.
• Other types: such as glazed acid-resistant bricks (with a glaze on the surface to enhance corrosion resistance) and matte-glazed acid-resistant bricks, which are used in applications requiring higher impermeability standards.
Features and Applications
• High acid resistance (typically >98%), low water absorption, and excellent thermal shock resistance.
• The operating temperature is generally below 1000–1400℃ (depending on the specific type).
• Application scenarios: chemical towers and tanks, pickling workshops, electroplating tanks, flue gas desulfurization units, fertilizer plants, and more.
When selecting, choose the appropriate type based on the specific acid concentration, temperature, and working environment, and avoid contact with alkaline media (acid-resistant bricks are susceptible to alkali corrosion).
